On the right is the on-ramp to Route 91 in MA that my mom and I always took to go up to VT. When I was learning how to drive, we would share the driving to VT; I would drive from our MA house to Route 91, she would drive up Route 91 to Brattleboro, and then I would resume driving from Brattleboro to our VT house. This division of labor worked well because I was nervous to drive on the highway. Now, after almost 3 years in LA, I’m not afraid of Route 91, and think the two lanes look kind of like an on-ramp to the 405 (except with fewer cars).

I'll always think of my mom while driving up to VT, but now I'm fully comfortable driving the whole way!
I completed this photo project from May 2009 to May 2010. Six years later, I'm reposting the series with additional thoughts. Here's what I wrote about it when I started.
